Respected Sir,

Santhi (Peace) Medical Information Centre, a charitable institution founded by Mrs. Uma Preman on August 24th 1997 in Guruvayur, Trichur District, Kerala, is a resource centre and a centre of solace in all sense of the word, for those who seek medical information, treatment & financial assistance for crippling or life- threatening ailments.

It is the fulfillment of a dream, which she shared with her husband Mr. Preman Thaikkad at his deathbed being a victim of the delayed and improper diagnosis. Thus, she realized the importance of right medical information and the proper treatment that is essential to safeguard human lives. Mrs. Uma is totally engrossed in service has become a glaring example for others by donating her kidney to a youth named Salil on July 28,1999 who was desperately in need of a transplant. Now he is also working actively in helping the poor patients.

We noticed that kidney patients are increasing day by day and the only solution is either to undergo transplantation or continue dialysis with no hope for the future. However, due to the lack of donors, hereditary diseases and their low financial status etc most of these patients are depending on dialysis to extend their lives. Many patients have died, unknown and unheralded simply because they could not afford the charge of dialysis .many patients have to travel long distances just to get to a dialysis clinic. Some die without knowing that, they have kidney failure and they could be help by dialysis.

For these poor patients, our trust is running FREE and subsidized dialysis units for the past 10 years. Our two Subsidized & Free Dialysis units are currently functioning in Trichur Heart Hospital, Palakkad Thangam Hospital, two FREE Dialysis units in Kunnamkulam, Perumbadappa and two well-equipped Mobile Dialysis Units in Calicut and Palakkad with 16 dialysis machines. These all are running for the poor with well qualified Nephrologists, 40 full time staff and technicians. Totally, we are providing nearly 1067 dialysis per month including all our units, 790 FREE and charging balance dialysis at a subsidized rate of Rs 400 only.

Above this subsidized dialysis charge, the patients bear additional charge for dialyzer, blood tubing, Inj. Expogen, Epoetin and Heparin. After each dialysis, Blood volume decreases by 100ml. To compensate this blood loss, patients must take these injections weekly. Now we are using F5 and F6 dialyzers. (F5 reuse- 8times and F6- 10times.) However, each time we spend Rs. 50 for cleaning dialyzers in R.O water. Other regular medicines cost will range from Rs.1000 to 1500.

Most of our kidney patients are very poor even to afford this subsidized rate of Rs. 400. Weekly they need 2 or 3 dialyses. Therefore, we are providing free dialysis for our very poor patients in Palakkad and Trichur dialysis units. For this noble cause, we are looking forward to help from organizations. Cost of one dialysis is Rs. 400. Now we have 102 poor patients in our unit.

We came to know that your benevolent Trust is undertaking many charitable activities for the humankind. Therefore, we seek your support and help to run our subsidized dialysis units for disabled poor patients. To run free and subsidized dialysis units every month we need an amount of Rs. 3 lakh to meet our expenses which includes Nephrologists Salary, Staff Salary, Dialysis disposable items, Hospital rent, electricity bill, dialysis machine maintenance, R.O maintenance etc. Each month we are really struggling to meet these huge expenses. Above all these we have nearly 25 lakh dialysis disposables purchase pending bills.

Under the circumstances, we humbly request you to help us maintain our life saving project for kidney patients who have placed all of their hopes and expectations in us. With their support we are also providing 90 % FREE dialysis. We are using separate machines for Hepatitis B and C dialysis patients. Our dialysis unit headed by Dr. E. Mohan Kumar , Nephrologist supported by 3 dialysis technicians ,2 male and 2 female nurses and a house keeper. We are providing best quality dialysis for our poor patients. The patient will be provided dialysis inside an air-conditioned van with state-of-the-art machines on a technologically advanced dialysis chair. Nephrologist Dr. Sunil George BABY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL MOBILE CARDIAC ICU PALAKKAD This Fully Fledged Mobile Cardiac ICU has all facilities like Emergency Ventilator, Defibrillator, Cardiac Monitor, Pulse Oximeter and it is manned by a Doctor and 2 qualified ICU staff nurses. This unit was inaugurated by Hon. Kerala Speaker Sri. K. Radhakrishnan on 24th may 2008. Now this mobile ICU is functioning in Palakkad district. Since there is no super specialty hospitals and patients in Palakkad district and the patients had to depend on hospitals in Coimbatore and Thrissur. Our 24 hours mobile I C U unit which is the first of its kind in Palakkad is an asset for Palakkad district. Since there is no super specialty hospitals and patients in waynad district and the patients had to depend on hospitals in Calicut. Our 24 hours mobile I C U unit which is the first of its kind in waynad is an asset for waynad district. Unit in charge Mr. Subin C.Peter Contact Number: 9495510123 PALAMALA TRIBAL REHABILITATION PROJECT PALAKKAD 2007 to 2010 S.M.I.C as a part of its social commitment, had taken up a unique project at kadampazhipuram in Palakkad district on 2007 January. We adopted 33 members of five tribal families at Palamala Tribal colony. The project aims at their Rehabilitation .we did this project with the support of Keraleeyan Foundation. We constructed 3 temporary Houses and provided water supply and Electric connection. We also under took their children’s Education and also helped them to be, self employed and also married off 3 of their girls. For all this purpose we appointed one paid coordinator. With our support they came to own a community identity as Tribal’s. And slowly they got all their preliminary rights like Land, House Electricity, Water, Road, and grant for children’s educations from the Government of India .now with the support of our Government they are safe and hence we have withdrawn this Rehabilitation project happily. “DIABETIC & HYPERTENSION PREVENTION AWARENESS PROJECT”(MOBILE) "Prevention is better than cure" Our mobile unit is reaching all the rural and urban areas of Kerala to spread the message of life style modification to prevent the diseases caused by faculty lifestyle. We are planning to do this project within 1year with the help of a loan from Punjab National Bank. The project was inaugurated by Honorable Leader of Opposition Sri. Oomnen Chandy on 3rd January 2008. We have prepared various educational materials including a tele-film which will be screened throughout Kerala. . Now we have successfully covered all the districts in Kerala. Since hypertension and Diabetics are the main causes for Renal Failure. Our motto for the project is "Prevention is better than cure". This is so because, Many relatives are reluctant to take discharge, even when the patients are fully recovered, (due to social stigma, poverty etc) the hospital is than forced to protect such patient which include mainly women’s and children’s. Due to some legal & Technical problems the Rehabilitation activities are not undertaken by any Individual. Now Santhi has started Rehabilitation by helping them to start a goat farm. And for this noble case a charitable society from kodungalore has donates 50goats. We also find solution for their water shortage problems by digging bore well. WORLD KIDNEY DAY TOUR Every year on world kidney day Santhi take all the dialysis patients on a pleasure trip. This year also more than 100 patients and their relative had the opportunity to be entertained south Indian film star sri. KALABAVAN MANI. This is one day all the dialysis patients wait for eagerly when they can forget all their worries and fears and enjoy themselves thoroughly PUNARJINI& AVAYAVA MAHAVUDHAM – ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS PROJECT. 2010 to 2012 As it was earlier mentioned, kidney patients are increasing day by day and the only solution is dialysis or transplantation to stay alive. But the painful fact is that, due to lack of donors, most of kidney patients are forced to accept their final fate. (I.e.-Premature death.) With so many life-threatening diseases and possibilities that target the organs, having a fresh supply of donor organs is a struggle. The Organ donations projects are one of the most important lifelines across the world. If organs are readily available for those waiting for an organ transplant, then there are life-saving organ transplant surgeries performed every day. Our mission is to bring awareness and information about the need for organ donation to encourage people to become organ donors. The awareness programme is propagated through street drama “Punarjini” and another stage plays “Avayava Mahayudham” by cine artist Sri. Sivaji Guruvayur throughout Kerala. In a seminar conduct by SANTHI on organ Donation at Guruvayur South Indian supreme star Mr. R. Sarath Kumar M.L.A.TENKASI and sri. Babu.M.Palissery M.L.A. KunnamKulam announced their willingness to donate their organs. Actor Sarath Kumar also said that organ donation is the noblest act one can do and it should be need a part of our culture. Along with the amassing awareness propagated through the stage shows and the heart-warming response of our young civic-conscious citizens, we as a nation of 1.2 billion, should be able to cater to the needs of the millions waiting for new organs and a new life. Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. FUTURE PROJECT OF SANTHI We have already started a peritoneal dialysis facility at Lakshadweep Kavarathi Island, awe are almost ready to start a fully fledged Heomodialysis unit.
